Carrots make your hair curly, I guess

From Carnation's Easy-Does-It Cookbook [1958].

This little girl is having none of that nonsense. Or is it nonsense? How many carrots has this lady eaten??

I also enjoy that her bosom has a jaunty bow, or possibly a propeller. It seems as if it is about to take flight.

  1. But will carrots give that little girl more freckles? I always tell my kids carrots will make you see in the dark.

  2. The little girl already has enough freckles to make her cute as a button!

  3. Speaking of bows... the one the little girl has at her throat does not seem to have a ribbon.

Maybe a better tactic would be "If you eat the carrots, I won't make you go in public with the bow stuck to your chin!"

  5. My parents used to tell us to eat our carrots because they were good for the eyes...come to find out over the years that if you cook them you lose whatever is supposed to do that so maybe cooked ones really DO curl your hair ( Better than more bows on dresses or freckles )

    Push pins ? Clever !

  6. I have now learned Interesting Knowledge.

"In WWII, Britain's air ministry spread the word that a diet of these vegetables helped pilots see Nazi bombers attacking at night. That was a lie intended to cover the real matter of what was underpinning the Royal Air Force's successes: Airborne Interception Radar, also known as AI. ... British Intelligence didn't want the Germans to find out about the superior new technology helping protect the nation, so they created a rumor to afford a somewhat plausible-sounding explanation for the sudden increase in bombers shot down. ... The disinformation was so persuasive that the English public took to eating carrots to help them find their way during blackouts.

  7. Very interesting...thanks for sharing that !

Lies are perpetuated through generations it seems. ( but this for a worthy cause ) My parents were children during WWII...in 1939, they were 8 & 7 years old, so I guess their parents told them too. British intelligence did it's job well !
