Listen to the Penguin.

Coldspot Freezer Informational Booklet [1952]
Listen to the penguin! He knows whereof he speaks. Except about the bananas. Frozen bananas are great. Especially in smoothies, and banana ice cream. Also the milk. Frozen milk is fine. And the celery. You can throw it into soup, it'll be grand. And tomatoes. For sauce.

Actually you know what? Penguins are not known for their expertise in the culinary fields. They mainly eat bait fish. Don't listen to the penguin. He's full of it.

  1. What about "sponge cake batter"? Would freezing affect the leaven? If it was an old-fashioned yeast leaven it would be okay, but what about baking powder? And why would you go to the trouble of making up the batter, only to freeze it?

  2. Well, sponge cakes are leavened with eggs rather than yeast or baking powder, so I imagine freezing would do wonky things to it. It implies that other cake batter is fine to freeze though, and I really have no idea why you'd want to. So... so you will have warm cake later?

  3. He's mighty cute though. I agree, I freeze bananas all the time, but only when they're too soft to eat and I'm saving them for banana bread. Then they accumulate and fall on my head and I say bad words and throw them all out. And start the cycle all over.

  5. I'm confused at this. Because there's an X through those 4 items, doesn't it mean you can freeze those? The headline is "Dont freeze," so there's no need for the X, unless it's don't don't freeze, in which case, you can freeze a banana. It would make more sense if the headline was "Freeze" and then X out items.

  8. We have come along way since 1952 as far as quality when things get frozen...except, of course, when humans decide to have themselves frozen...then all bets are off !
